Eight Sides of the Presidential Candidates

With all of the current political debates and efforts going into the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election you can tell things are beginning to become tight and heated. But how do these presidential candidates show their abilities to be every aspect that a president has to be?

The eight sides to the president are: chief of state, chief executive, chief administrator, chief diplomat, commander in chief, chief legislator, party chief, and chief citizen. Not all of the candidates can fully all eight of these things at once, but who all shows the ability to deal with everything being president encompasses? The New York Times has conveniently added a nice poll of all the candidates and their opinions on things such as Immigration, Abortion and more.

On the topic of Immigration some candidates say they would pursue a path for undocumented immigrants to stay in the country legally while other candidates wouldn’t even think about granting them citizenship. 75% of Democrats(Clinton, Sanders) want immigrants to have citizenship while 37% of Republicans(Trump) want them deported. Would having these immigrants, these people deported be very nice? No. But when looking at aspects of the presidency and how Trump, Clinton and Sanders approach this argument we see where they stand on the matter. The same thing goes for gun control. 76% of Democrats want tighten gun control laws while 59% of Republicans oppose new restrictions. Looking at gun control specifically you have to take into consideration the side of “commander in chief”. How would new gun control laws affect the citizens of the United States and what other countries outside the United States would think if we lower, or tighten our gun laws. When making decisions as President there are multiple different things one needs to take into consideration, especially how a new law or the way you act will affect the way us a community lives and functions.

On the topic of Abortion the polls and candidates largely split. Republicans have called for cutting off federal funds for Planned Parenthood, some allow expectations in cases involving rape or incest. 51% of Democrats want to support Abortion rights, while 43% of Republicans oppose Abortion rights and 13% of Democrats and 37% of Republicans have no exception for rape or incet. This is a very sensitive and touchy subject when it comes to abortion: are you Pro Life or Pro Choice? Another sensitive subject is Syrian Refugees. After terrorist attacks in Paris, the candidates have split largely again over whether they should allow refugees into the US or not. 63% of Democrats want to allow Syrian refugees into the US while 68% of Republicans don’t want to allow refugees into the US. Some also say they would only allow Christian refugees but how is any of this logical. Christian or not these are people, who are refugees in their own country, their own land. The refugees would not be the terrorist that we should be worried about. For more proof on the matter of how a Syrian Refugee is really like their is a movie coming out called “Salam Neighbor”.

While there are many different opinions obviously on the matters at hand in the government not everyone looks at them in the way a President should. Looking at issues from all aspects of the Presidency is a complicated and hard task because whatever you decide it will affect your whole country. But that is why us a citizens need to choose wisely so that we will have a President that will be successful and lead to a bigger and brighter future.
